Resolution In Support of Body-Worn Cameras

WHEREAS, the use of certain technologies has been found to greatly enhance the professionalism, integrity and public trust of the law enforcement community in their efforts to curtail crime, public disorder, and build community relationships, and;

WHEREAS, research has shown that the use of body worn cameras by law enforcement officers has dramatically reduced the occurrence of police abuse and misconduct, and;

WHEREAS, the use of body worn cameras by law enforcement officers promotes a higher degree of transparency in the processes and practices of the criminal justice system, allowing citizens, and particularly those in communities of color, wider opportunities to seek a greater sense of justice, and;

WHEREAS, the President of The United States has indicated his full support for the use of this technology by law enforcement, providing programs which will support and fund their use;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Board of Directors and General Membership of the National Association of Black Law Enforcement Officers indicates their support for the use of this technology throughout the law enforcement profession, and;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, we urge all agencies to consider the promulgation of appropriate policies and standards for its use.
