The National Association of Black Law Enforcement Officers, Inc. (NABLEO) will hold their 2025 Education and Training Conference, Board of Directors meetings, Awards and Scholarship Ceremonies from Wednesday, September 24th thru Friday, September 26th at the Harborside Hotel in Oxon Hills, MD. The three-day series of events are being hosted by members of the Coalition of Black Maryland State Troopers, and is open to all sworn or civilian members (active or retired) of Municipal Police Departments, County Police or Sheriffs agencies, State Police Departments, Campus Police/Safety/Security departments, Federal Agencies; Transit/Port Authorities; Housing Police, School Resource Officers, Correctional agencies, as well as, the staff and leadership of the organizations that make up their community partnerships, and members of institutional safety units.

Registration online is open through September 6, 2025 at http://conference.nableo.org.

The conference, themed ““Rebuilding Equality in Law Enforcement”” will feature lectures and panel discussions designed to be of interest to both law enforcement personnel and their community partners and will cover such issues as “Today’s Surviving Leadership in Law Enforcement; Mental Health in Today’s Policing; Women in Today’s Law Enforcement; Can The Culture of Policing Change?; Challenges in Policing Multicultural Communities; Race in Police and Community; Policing in The U.S.-Past, Present and Future; Community Outreach and Strategic Engagement”, and other topics designed to provide law enforcement officers with greater tools, knowledge and skills for interacting with people, particularly in communities of color. As well, a special program in Retirement Preparation will also be presented.

According to Lieut. Charles Wilson (Ret.), National Chairman, “Because police officers serve as the enforcement arm of the government and are one of the few agencies permitted the right to use deadly force, it is essential that they find new ways to strengthen their enforcement operations through the achievement of diversity and inclusiveness at all levels, advocating for stronger bonds with the communities that we serve, particularly in communities of color, and gain greater tools, knowledge and skills for interacting with people, thus allowing them to build operative and reciprocal bridges of understanding between law enforcement agencies and communities to create sustainable impact models of positive policing. These are the things that lead to successful community safety programs.”

Conference sessions will also feature their Board of Directors’ meetings where among the topics being addressed will be the election of officers for the next two-year period. Board members represent more than 10,000 members from CA, CO, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, MI, MO, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, TN, VA and WA.

Friday evening will feature a Scholarship and Awards Ceremony beginning with a reception from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM, followed by dinner. Members of law enforcement and the community will be recognized for their accomplishments and efforts towards building stronger bridges between police and community.

Among those being honored will be Aisha Braveboy (Law Enforcement Leadership Award), Senator Joanne Benson (Community Leadership Award), Capt. Thomas Boone (Community Policing Award), Ryan Coleman (Community Service Award), Dr. Lorenzo Boyd and the Westchester-Rockland Guardians Association (Chairman’s Award), Mae Smith (Lifetime Achievement Award), and four student recipients of the Children of Courage Scholarship Award. Tickets for this event are priced at $125.00 per person, and are available from members of either the Coalition of Black Maryland State Troopers or online at http://conference.nableo.org.
